MISSION

The Alzheimer Society Laurentides’ mission is to:

  • Inform, support, guide, and advocate for individuals affected by Alzheimer’s disease or other major neurocognitive disorders;
  • Raise awareness among the population of the Laurentides region about the various aspects of these diseases;
  • Train healthcare professionals working with individuals affected by these conditions, as well as caregivers, volunteers, and students called upon to do so;
  • Promote and contribute to research.

VISION

The Alzheimer Society Laurentides is committed to being recognized as a relevant, high-performing, and innovative organization, distinguished by its human-centered approach.

VALUES

The values that guide the Alzheimer Society Laurentides are:

  • A human-centered approach
  • Respect for the dignity of individuals living with the disease
  • Encouraging personal autonomy
  • Mutual support and solidarity

PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of the Quebec Alzheimer movement is centered on the individual, focusing on their strengths and abilities rather than the disease. Accordingly, the Alzheimer Society Laurentides bases its approach on four key principles:

  • Every intervention must прежде all be driven by the desire to build, develop, and maintain a relationship of trust with the individual and their loved ones.
  • A relationship of trust involves creating, with and for the individual, a space in which they feel fully recognized and heard in all their needs.
  • The progression of a person living with Alzheimer’s disease depends largely on how they are perceived, regarded, and understood.
  • Every intervention must positively contribute to the individual’s well-being by providing the resources and tools needed throughout the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

Code of Ethics

Code of Ethics

As a citizen and as a beneficiary of the services provided by the Alzheimer Society Laurentides (SAL), you are entitled to a set of rights recognized and defined by the various charters and laws that govern life in Quebec society, and in particular by the law governing SAL, the Act respecting health services and social services.

This gives rise to a Code of Ethics formally adopted by the SAL Board of Directors. This Code outlines our commitments, meaning the standards of practice and conduct you can expect from anyone working within the organization. It also sets out SAL’s expectations of its participants.

The Code of Ethics notably specifies:

Your Rights

The right to be informed

Every person has the right to be informed about the existence of services and resources available in their community.

The right to services

Every person has the right to receive appropriate services in a humane, personalized, and safe manner, ensuring continuity of care. This right is exercised in consideration of the organization’s structure and available human, material, and financial resources.

The right to consent

No person may be subjected to care or services without their consent, regardless of the nature of the intervention.

The right to be represented

Participants’ rights may be exercised by a representative.

The right to complain

Every participant has the right to file a complaint regarding services they have received or should have received. Complaints may be written or verbal. At the Alzheimer Society Laurentides, the Executive Director is responsible for handling complaints. If the person remains dissatisfied after this process, they may also contact the Integrated Health and Social Services Centre (CISSS) of the Laurentides.

The right to legal recourse

A person has the right to take legal action against the organization or its employees in the event of professional misconduct.

The right to confidentiality

A participant’s file is confidential. No information may be shared with any other institution without the individual’s consent.

The right to vote and to run for office

Only active members in good standing for at least 30 days prior to the Annual General Meeting have the right to vote at the AGM or to stand for election, according to eligibility criteria set out by bylaw or Board resolution.

Commitment of the Alzheimer Society Laurentides

Anyone working within the Alzheimer Society Laurentides (SAL), whether as an employee, volunteer, or otherwise, is required to comply with the organization’s Code of Ethics. Staff represent the organization in their interactions with participants and are expected to uphold its mission, values, commitments, standards, and policies.

The rights to life, safety, integrity, freedom, dignity, and privacy guide the attitudes, practices, and conduct of all staff toward participants.

SAL services aim to respond appropriately and promptly to participants’ needs, within the limits of available resources and the organization’s priority clientele.

SAL delivers its services in collaboration with families, community organizations, volunteers, other health and social service institutions, and others, while respecting the limits of its partners. SAL is an active part of the regional community and engages in collective and community actions to continuously improve and enhance its services. The well-being of participants is the primary concern of all staff.

The relationship between staff and participants is strictly professional.

Staff who identify a participant’s dissatisfaction must respond within their responsibilities, inform the person of their rights, including the right to file a complaint, and notify their immediate supervisor if necessary.

No staff member may request or accept any payment, bribe, gift, or gratuity from participants.

Any form of verbal, physical, or psychological violence, as well as harassment, is strictly prohibited within the organization, whether at home or in any other setting where SAL operates. This applies to both participants and staff.

Expectations Toward Participants

The Alzheimer Society Laurentides encourages participant empowerment, respect, and the development of autonomy according to their pace and abilities. SAL and participants work together to find solutions to the challenges they face.

Participants are expected to understand that services are provided based on available human, material, and financial resources. Participants are asked to respect appointments or cancel in advance if they cannot receive home services, as outlined in the service agreement.

SAL commits to welcoming participants courteously and expects the same courtesy in return.
